Nigerian Armed Forces and the Celebration of Decadence and Brutality.

More than 30 years after Animal in Human Skin by Fela Anikulapokuti, the Nigerian Armed Forces is yet to cleanse itself of barbarism and the culture of brutality and crude indoctrination.
Now you know why Boko Haram is having the upper hand in the War with the Nigerian Armed Forces. This video is not 1900. This is Nigerian Military Boys undergoing brutality in the name of training in the 21st Century. Every now and then, they are ambushed and slaughtered like chicken by the Boko Haram sect, with little or no resistance.
Once, I asked publicly if our Men and Women in Uniforms are undergoing modern training that would adequately prepare them for guerilla warfare, in light of the easiness that they are overpowered, disarmed, and killed by bandits and insurgents. Someone argued that they are not fully equipped with sophisticated weapons. And I had my doubt. And I expressed some misgiven when I saw a similar video about two years ago. This video, no doubt, put to rest my doubt.
Though modern or sophisticated weapons are desirable, but one cannot discountenance offhandedly the exigency of brainpower and a background in strategic maneuvering. This is no survival instinct training. This brutality. This is a psychological trauma unmitigated.
And you expect them to be civil in dealing with Nigerians or the civilian population after undergoing this brutality in the name of training? Now you know why Sambisa Forest is still a fortified ground for the sect. I pray someone draws Buratai's attention to this mayhem and savagery.
The same story is true of the Nigerian Police Force - remember the pictures and video that emerged when President Jonathan made an impromptu visit to the Police College at Ikeja, Lagos? Nigerian Police Force used to be one of the best trained in the World. I met with one of them who was part of the UN Sponsored Peace Keeping Contingents in Lebanon. They were voted the best. It was the same story about some of them who went to an East African country many years ago.
Moving Forward.
What is going on in this video and similar ones available in the social media is a manifestation of an ingrained culture of cruelty and savagery within the Armed Forces that must be discontinued. Once these guys have risen in ranks and become the trainers, they go back to the drawing board, escalating and doubling the brutality visited on them while they were undergoing training exercises. It doesn't bode well for efficiency and creativity. It MUST be discontinued. You cannot win a war like that. The best start is for the new and emerging Trainers to be taken overseas for at least a year training course in a military environment where science and technology intertwined with brainpower and physical agility in the training and grooming of future military leaders. Not this one on video.
