Road Construction 101: A Model to Emulate Throughout Nigeria.

I am not a Civil Engineer, but I am well-grounded in Public Administration and Management. Looking at the thickness of the concrete or asphalt on the road surface, I will not hesitate to draw the attention of NDDC, the Minister of Works and all the Commissioners for works throughout Nigeria to use this as a model. It is very unlikely that this road in the picture will be washed out in flood within a year as the case is today all over Nigeria.
Every politics, according to American veteran congressman, the late Tim O'Neil of Massachusetts, is local. Therefore, I want to draw the attention of all the Contractors handling road construction projects in my town, EWOHIMI, and throughout Esan South East Local Government to follow this standard.
I also observed that in most of the local roads in Nigeria, the drainage (gutter) are always higher than the road surface. If the gutter is higher than the road surface, how can the rainwater on the road gain access to the drainage or gutter? Never. Why no Commissioner of Works or Minister of Works or officials of the Works Ministry in Nigeria have noticed that anomaly is mind-boggling.
I have also noticed that when they are constructing the drainage, they deposit the soil they are digging out of the gutter onto the side of the houses or bush along the road. That's not idealistic. The soil from the gutter should be deposited on the road surface. That is the soil you will eventually need to fill up the roadway and makes it higher than the gutter. In that case, you don't need to go extra miles going into the bush to dig for extra soil to feel up the road surface. This is common sense. Come on Nigerians! Too much text-book brilliance is not good. Use common sense. Have a monitoring team in the Works Ministry at both State and Federal levels.
