It takes a village to raise a child. But first, we must know their parents. The Almajiri culture is a complicated culture, and most often, the children do not even know where they are coming or going. It is all bleak a future, where the end remains unknown
President Jonathan, a Niger Delta native, didn't want to know their parents or where they are coming from. But he wanted to know where they are going - a brighter, better, and more fulfilling future. He built modern schools for them - starting from Sokoto State. But the Buhari administration abandoned the project. To them, the Almajiri culture has come to stay.
Tomorrow, another Presidential candidate like President Buhari will emerge from the North, playing the race and religious cards, arguing that a Niger Delta or Igbo, an Esan or a Yoruba candidate will not be President because such a candidate is an infidel who can't be trusted.
To my fellow Nigerians, a time will come when the Almajiri culture will become a disqualification for a Presidential run. And that is the stage we are going right now. Because it is a national embarrassment, packed with high stakes security risks.
Growing up unsupervised, they become a ready reservoir for bandits and Boko Haram recruiters. At that stage, it is no longer a region problem, but a national nightmare as we have today.
All their children went to Grammar School and University in London, England, but they do not know what to do to eradicate the Almajiri culture at home. Surprisingly, a program that was put in place by a Niger-Delta man is now history.
So, who is really an infidel? And who loves the Talakawa and the Almajiri the more? Certainly not the leadership and administration who do not know what to do with the mandate they stole and create a partway to a better life for the very poor in their midst. 2023 is around the corner and we are waiting. You must be able to answer the question: what have you done for the Almajiri lately
Am not expecting anything from Buhari's and I don't want anything from him but can he at least help his own people? Can he abolish this evil Amaljiri system? Can he give access to education to the over 13 million out of school children in the north? If he is useless to the south, is he also useless to the north?
