allAfrica.com: Nigeria: 2015 - Igbo Presidency Still Feasible - Ojukwu

allAfrica.com: Nigeria: 2015 - Igbo Presidency Still Feasible - Ojukwu

Next time, the journalist should not forget to ask him to name one or two prominent Easterners to run for the office of the President. If we desire change, we should be able to identify potential leaders in our midst. I am not and Igbo man; be that as it may, as a true Nigerian, I will not hesitate to vote for Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Every single day you read articles written by native Igbos in our Newspapers or in the social media, but the problem is, much as they have lots to write about leadership change or separation, they don't know how to identify and promote one of their own as President. It is not enough to write or Blog about the need to have an Igbo person as the President, when you cannot identify quality leaders within your community.

Most often, when they write, the first two or three paragraphs are always devoted to stories about dead philosophers or a recite of hackneyed expressions that bear no relevance to issue under discussion. Go straight to the point, guys - you are not a lecturer. Tell us why an Igbo must be President. Identify one or two guys, and then tell us what makes them presidential material.

The few of them who have canvassed for an Igbo man or woman to be President of Nigeria, have difficulties telling the rest of us who they believe has the quality to be President of Nigeria. That is the number one problem confronting that community. They don't know how to identify true leaders.  For instance, Mrs Okonjo Iweala, the present Minister of Finance will make a good President any day, but my Ibo brothers do not talk about her in that capacity. I do not know of any politician right now within PDP who is better than her as a leader, and as one who understand the working of government. Same is true of former Minister of Finance under IBB, Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu. Nna, over to you.
