Bakassi declares independence, hoists flag
We ceded an unwilling people and their God given territory to another country. They have every right to defend their people and their territory. It is a failure on the part of the Federal Government of Nigeria to even bargain or litigate the ceding of the Bakassi people and territory with a third party.
It is not negotiable and it should not have been litigated. They have been part of us over the decades. What happened at the International Court of Justice at the Hague was a travesty. When Southern Cameroon left Nigeria to join with the Cameroon Republic, Bakassi in the South and Bornu up Northern part of Nigeria elected to remain part of Nigeria. So why must we negotiate or litigate their annexation with Cameroonians at all? We will get Bakassi back any time soon.
