Give the case to younger lawyers, I bet, they will do a better job. Some of these SANs have been around for so long that they no longer know how and when to separate personal interest from public interest. This story called into question the necessity or relevance of our judicial disciplinary body. Not quite long ago, in the trial of one of the rogue bankers, a trial judge threw caution and patience to the wind and openly berated five SANs who filed the brief on behalf of the federal government and EFCC for their inadequate representation, lackadaisical attitude, and shameless procedural delay. Go to Kaduna, Warri, or Oshogbo; you will find capable and tough lawyers to do the same job at a lower rate per hour. They waste precious time on procedural legal mumbo-jumbo at the expense of substantive issues. This is not an opinion on the guilt or innocence of Chief Adegboyega Awomolo SAN on the instant allegations, but a statement of fact regarding the delay tactics often resorted to by influential Nigerian lawyers in complicit with graft-prone judges to defeat justice.
